Recycle Bin

The recycle bin is an optional safety net for volume deletion. When it's enabled, deleting a volume — however that delete happens, whether you run it directly or it's the end result of an approved action policy — doesn't destroy it immediately. Instead the volume is held in the recycle bin, still fully intact, until either you restore it or its retention period expires, at which point it's purged automatically and permanently.

This gives you a window to recover from an accidental (or malicious) volume deletion without needing a backup or snapshot restore.

Configuring the recycle bin

The recycle bin is off by default. Turning it on requires a retention period — how many hours a deleted volume sits in the bin before StorONE permanently deletes it on your behalf.

Using the web interface

  1. Open Application Volumes > Recycle Bin > Settings.
  2. Enable the recycle bin and set the retention period, in hours.
  3. Confirm the change.

Using the CLI

applications volumes recycle_settings edit --enable --timeLimitInHours=<numbers>

or, to turn it off:

applications volumes recycle_settings edit --disable
Option Description
--enable Enable the recycle bin.
--disable Disable the recycle bin.
--timeLimitInHours=<numbers> Number of hours a volume remains in the recycle bin before being permanently deleted.

Examples

Enable the recycle bin with a 72-hour retention window:

applications volumes recycle_settings edit --enable --timeLimitInHours 72

Extend an already-enabled recycle bin's retention to a week:

applications volumes recycle_settings edit --enable --timeLimitInHours 168

Turn the recycle bin off entirely:

applications volumes recycle_settings edit --disable

Viewing recycle bin settings

A CLI-only lookup of the current recycle bin configuration — whether it's enabled and its retention period. The web interface shows this directly in the Settings view above, so there's no separate screen for it.

applications volumes recycle_settings list

Example

applications volumes recycle_settings list

Listing volumes in the recycle bin

Using the web interface

Open Application Volumes > Recycle Bin. Use the toolbar to filter by application/volume and to toggle consistency groups, snapshots, and capacity details.

Using the CLI

applications volumes recycle_bin list [--application=<name> --volume=<name>] [--details] [--consistencyGroups] [--snapshots] [--capacity]
Option Description
--application=<name> Filter by application name.
--volume=<name> Filter by volume name.
--details Show volume details.
--consistencyGroups Show consistency groups.
--snapshots Show volume snapshots.
--capacity Show capacity statistics.

Examples

List every volume currently in the recycle bin:

applications volumes recycle_bin list

List recycled volumes in a specific application, with capacity details:

applications volumes recycle_bin list --application finance --capacity

Restoring a volume from the recycle bin

Restoring puts the volume back exactly as it was — same application, name, mappings, and configuration — with nothing lost, since it was never actually deleted.

Using the web interface

  1. Open Application Volumes > Recycle Bin.
  2. Select the volume (or select multiple at once) and click Restore.

Using the CLI

applications volumes recycle_bin restore --application=<name> --volume=<name>
Option Description
--application=<name> The name of the application.
--volume=<name> The volume to restore.

Example

applications volumes recycle_bin restore --application finance --volume ledgers

Permanently deleting a recycled volume

Skips the rest of the retention period and deletes the volume for good, right away. This can't be undone.

Using the web interface

  1. Open Application Volumes > Recycle Bin.
  2. Select the volume and click Delete.
  3. Confirm the deletion.

Using the CLI

applications volumes recycle_bin delete --application=<name> --volume=<name> [--force]
Option Description
--application=<name> The name of the application.
--volume=<name> The volume to permanently delete.
--force Skip the confirmation prompt.

Examples

applications volumes recycle_bin delete --application finance --volume ledgers

Delete without a confirmation prompt — useful in scripts:

applications volumes recycle_bin delete --application finance --volume ledgers --force
